An online art and literary journal showcasing the diverse written and visual works by artists from all around the world

The Riwayya website was built to work across all devices and browsers. Built on Wordpress for editorial control.

The Brief

I was invited to create the website for an online literary publication.

The publication was designed specifically to showcase young artists from the Arabic-speaking world. A platform was required for implementing both editorial and publishing policy.

To serve the interests of the artists it was vital to integrate individual postings with social media channels. Social media integration was also important to promote the site as a whole.

The staff of Riwayya also required training on any solution.

My Approach

A pre-built theme was used as the base of the site in order to keep costs as low as possible. The site was built using the WordPress process for ‘childing’ themes. The frontend was then customized using a combination of prebuilt configurable settings and custom PHP and JavaScript.

The staff were given training on how to use WordPress as a Content Management System. A hosting provider was selected to suit the requirements and budget of the Riwayya team.

I provided a Site Care Plan to maintain website functioning and security.

The site is managed in the background, allowing the Riwayya team to manage the content without having to be involved in the ongoing management of the host or network. The site and it’s component software is kept up-to-date and secure.

The site continues to grow in popularity as it cements it’s position as the central hub for a unique cultural offering.
